The left’s deranged hatred of Tony Abbott

This week, Tony Abbott joined the pack of politicians for the 2020 Pollie Pedal, a charity initiative he started in 1998 to raise funds and awareness for those who have served our nation. It gives members of parliament the chance to connect with people outside of the capital cities and raise money for a range of great causes.

Since 1998, under Abbott’s leadership, Pollie Pedal has ridden more than 20,000 kilometres and raised nearly $6 million for organisations such as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, Ronald McDonald House, Youth Insearch, the Paralympic Games, Carers Australia and now, Soldier On, an initiative that supports veterans and their families.

The proceeds of this year’s Pollie Pedal will support Soldier On’s work helping veterans tackle both the seen and unseen scars of war. Veterans will also have the opportunity to join the ride.

Abbott began this year’s trek after his mandatory 14 day quarantine from his trip to Britain, where he was recently appointed as an advisor to the UK’s Board of Trade under the request of Prime Minister Boris Johnson. And boy oh boy did the left chuck a hissy fit.

We will get to that in a moment, but first, let’s look at a few important facts:

  • The role is unpaid
  • Tony Abbott’s government negotiated Australia’s free trade deal with China (CHAFTA) in 2015.
  • The Abbott government signed the Australia Korea Free Trade Agreement
  • Abbott was instrumental in achieving the Japan–Australia Economic Partnership Agreement in 2014.

The suite of important free trade agreements was arguably Abbott’s most successful achievement as Prime Minister. What’s more is that a former Prime Minister of a close ally is perhaps the closest thing you can get to someone being qualified for a trade advisory role.

But, you see, Abbott is guilty of thought crime according to the political left. Predictably, the usual barrage of insults was hurled his way: climate denier, sexist, misogynist, racist, homophobe, Trump worshiper.

You know the list. They are almost like bad song lyrics these days. You can roll them out without any thought at all, which is seemingly what the leftists do for anyone they dislike.

The UK Labour Party threw a tantrum, with shadow trade secretary, Emily Thornberry dismissing him as an offensive, leering, cantankerous, climate change-denying, Trump-worshipping misogynist.

The Labor Party and the Greens back home were only too happy to echo the criticism.

What a disgrace to a great Australian. Tony Abbott has dedicated his entire life to service as both a politician and a volunteer, and for an unpaid role as an advisor he is subject to the trite barrage of leftist abuse because he refuses to conform to woke sentiments.

Abbott was a member of parliament from 1993 to 2019. He was a minister in various portfolios in the Howard Government from 1998 to 2007. He led the Liberal Party from 2009 to 2015, serving for two years as Prime Minister.

Abbott during the recent summer bushfires

He has been an active volunteer of the NSW Rural Fire Service for most of his life. He is also volunteer member of the Queenscliff Surf Life Saving Club. He has spent several weeks as a volunteer teacher in remote indigenous communities at Cape York.

He is a Rhodes Scholar. A loving father, husband and brother.

Tony Abbott has done more for the Australian community as one individual than most will ever hope to achieve. He is a fellow patriot who Australians should feel proud to have representing us abroad.

Yes, he played politics hard and ruthlessly. That’s the game though. Even if you disagree with him politically, at least he was a man of values and convictions, a rare commodity in politics these days.

And yet the leftists degrade his character with the same tired insults. That is how it works these days. An entire life’s work is dismissed if you dare deviate from the identitarian left and its obsession with race, sex and gender.

Well done to the Johnson government on its new appointment. While the leftists sooked and moaned on Twitter, Abbott was already preparing for his charity ride to raise money for our veterans. As you read this, he probably on his bike right now.
